Collaborations

Weather And Networked Data

Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) joined forces with Goanna Ag to develop an innovative weather warning system called Weather And Networked Data (WAND). WAND is a real-time hazardous weather alert system that provides farmers and spray operators with up-to-date weather data to help identify the presence of hazardous temperature inversions.

WAND features a world-first network of 100 Profiling Automatic Weather Stations (PAWS) spread across the grain and cotton regions of New South Wales and Queensland. These PAWS have remote sensing capabilities and proprietary software that provides growers and spray contractors with real-time weather data that is updated every 10 minutes.

The system provides valuable data that accurately identifies whether hazardous inversions or other hazardous conditions are present. WAND’s innovative technology helps farmers determine whether it is safe to spray their crops and provides a critical tool in managing weather conditions for agricultural spray applications.
